Info
With “IT’S ALL WRONG” we are presenting a solo exhibition of paintings by Niels Sievers in Berlin. He studied painting at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf class Jörg Immendorff.
A twilight world, devoid of human life characterises the art of Niels Sievers. His luminous skies above dark forests, shimmering in silver moonlight are a recurrent feature of his work. A low-angled perspective makes these “enchanted forests” appear huge and forbidding, imparting an air of menace. The beholder finds themselves alone in the middle of a deep wood with only their own thoughts and feelings for company.
In his more recent work, Sievers adopts urban motifs such as night-time images of deserted streets and bus-stops, lit only by streetlights and other artificial sources of light. Here the viewer must face his own fears as he finds himself in situation of self-reflection.
In his work Niels Sievers takes as inspiration a state of mind beyond daytime, a liminal space between darkness and light. He experiments with classical media like oil, canvas and wood combined with more contemporary techniques using spraypaint, popular with street artists. Combining both in his unique, signature style, Sievers’ paintings, whether large or small, oscillate between Romanticism and Modernity, the Old Master and the graffiti artist.
