Lubomir Typlt belongs among the most well-known representatives of Czech contemporary figurative painting. After studying art in the Czech Republic, he studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, first with Lüpertz and then with A.R. Penck. Typlt’s paintings captivate with their expressive colourfulness and his unsparing view of the human condition. His current painting depicts adolescent girls and boys, who are each aggressive and frightened, free and trapped, isolated and seeking support from each other. “Metaphors are needed if we want to grasp the crisis and the vales of tears through which we are stumbling as terrifying or threatening our very existence.“ (Christoph Tannert in the catalogue „Somnambul“). Typlt creates ruthlessly angular metaphors, they are terrifying, but nothing is more terrible than looking away and dulling them. The absurdity of the events, cruelty and coldness, characterise Typlt’s narrative, but it is not only the violent movement of the brush that is noticeable, his figures are also full of energy, never giving up in the search for knowledge.

contrives allusive titles that demand the adoption of new perspectives. Composition and intuition determine the forms and colours of his anachronistic pictorial worlds.
